If anyone knows of or finds a way to query what the latest version binary is with nvchecker let me know! this will help me keep the package up-to-date. (I use pkgctl to check all my packages: see my PKGBUILDs, this depends on a .nvchecker.toml for each package)

edit: I found out from this comment that proton has a simple json api for version data

edit2: Apparently sometimes it doesn't work: proton-mail-bin: current version 1.9.0 is newer than 1.8.1 🙃

@Joboy thanks! I did report it via their app feedback UI back in May, and after a short conversation, they logged it as a bug in their internal system and said that it's there, but can't give a timeline for fixing it. Mission accomplished I guess!

Joboy commented on 2025-05-14 18:57 (UTC)

@kjkent Haven't done so actually, because I'm not sure they actively follow up on their github issues, and I couldn't easily find another bug tracker. So if you know where to report it, go right ahead!

@Joboy you absolute HERO. Thank you. If this hasn't been reported upstream I'll happily do so.

For those encountering the segfault under wayland, try running it under X11:

ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT=x11 proton-mail

The app seemingly cannot populate its windowBounds setting in .config/Proton\ Mail/config.json when running under wayland. Once that key is populated, the app works under wayland too.

@mcliff -- did you figure out what @shinobiX9X meant/how to fix? I still get segfaults when trying to use this package

mcliff commented on 2025-02-01 17:37 (UTC)

@shinobiX9X how did you change the settings to xdg desktop portals

yochananmarqos commented on 2024-11-21 16:48 (UTC)

@openaiken: Disable debug in your makepkg.conf.

openaiken commented on 2024-11-21 16:26 (UTC)

Can this pkgbuild be updated to also conflict with proton-mail-debug? I installed this package to replace proton-mail since this is more up to date, and it staged the removal of the other, but not the debug package, which prevented a successful install/replacement.

(Also, PSA: PM 1.4.0 is out, and locally modifying the pkgbuild with the new version and the hash (7259a5a1dbd680751ecdf752c31d3fc40f443abdc0e02649444d6a4016b102ce) worked just fine for me to install the latest.)

Nevermind Qt settings was default instead of xdg desktop portals. now is fine
